Katsina state was created on September
23rd, 1987 by then Gen. Ibrahim Babangida military administration.
The state was carved out from Kaduna state. Before then,
the state was part of defuct North Central State created
in 1967. The state grown and was a major centre of commerce
in the 18th century Trans Sahara trade. The state is
a homogenous Hausa/Fulani tribe.
Boundaries/Neighbours:
The state is borderd in the North by Niger Republic,
in the West by Zamfara state, in the South by Kaduna
state and in the East by Kano and Jigawa states.
Topography:
The state is a flat plain surface with large grass land.
Climate:
It is generally cool in the morning and gets hotter
towards the afternoon. The state is coolest between
November – February as a result of the Harmattan dusty
and dry wind.
Education:
The state is one of the educationdisadvantaged states.
The state has a Federal College of Education in Katsina
Town, one Polytechnic, one Teacher Tranining College
and an Islamic University in Katsina.
Economy:
The state is one of Nigeria’s gate way states
with her northern neighbours. Katsina city is a centre of
commerce between Nigeria and Niger republic. 
Agriculture:
This is the mainstay of the economy. Major crops by
the state are; maize, cotton, groundnut, guinea corn,
millet, beans and soya beans.
Mineral/Natural Resources:
The following are found in the state; Nickel, Uranium,
lead, iron oxide, silica sand, fire-clay, precious stones,
clay, shale.
